Pratt Institute

2017 - 2019

Adjunct Professor

Summary

Pratt Institute is an art, design, and architecture school based in Brooklyn, New York, with a long-standing reputation for excellence in creative education.

I wrote the curriculum and taught the first Digital Product Design class alongside two other professors.

Course description

A hands‑on, end‑to‑end UX/UI design immersion covering web and mobile. Emphasis on both process and tools — from user research to prototyping to portfolio-ready case studies.

Course principles

  1. Critical thinking - before we sit down at a computer, how do we gather information and start to understand a problem space.

  2. Crafting a message - How to bring all your findings together, share it others and drive alignment.

  3. Giving a presentation - the life blood of a designer, how to package your message into something that makes people think and drives the conversation forward.

  4. Giving and receiving feedback - creating a culture of healthy and productive discussion.

What I wanted to show you

Knowing something well isn’t the same as explaining it clearly. Teaching this class pushed me to articulate design thinking in a completely different way.

What I learned

Teaching a class is the hardest job I’ve had. It pushed me to refine my own communication style, learn more patience and always carry more whiteboard markers.
