Parachute

2019 - 2020

Founding Designer

Summary

Parachute’s mission is to revolutionize the blood plasma donation space, think One Medical for donations.

I joined as the Founding Designer and spent a year getting Parachute off the ground. I touched every surface: product strategy, a consumer-facing app, and backend tools.

Existing donation centers were stuck in the past, we set out to craft a boutique experience that feels modern and convenient.

One of the biggest opportunities we saw was getting donors paid. Historically, centers would load money onto a debit card that charged a fee to withdraw from an ATM and there wasn't an easy way to check your balance. So our core problem to solve was getting payouts into an app, where you can see your balance and transfer the money.

In addition to building a consumer app, I also designed the back of house tooling that allowed staff to monitor donations, track customer appointments and build out the employee schedule.

Parachute is now in over 55 locations across the US. We were able to grow rapidly by differentiating ourselves with a mobile-first, app-based experience that made scheduling and getting paid easy.

What I wanted to show you

A breath of the work that showcases a wide range of skills. This project required me to do just about everything – brand, UX, visual design, information architecture and storytelling.

What I learned

Don’t stay stuck too long. I had a vision for the brand but knew I couldn’t spend months designing it, so I worked with a mega talented designer to help me bring that vision to life in 3 weeks. I was able to take those brand assets and keep the rest of the design work moving.
